Online Dating Etiquette

If you feel apprehensive about communicating with more people at the same time, it is good to know that online dating etiquette considers it okay. Answering to people who are contacting you feels just fine. On the average, you will get answers to one in four or five messages. Which means that the system does not track a single thread as in 'you write to someone and wait for him/her to get back to you'. The rule works both ways; you don't act against online dating etiquette if you ignore some messages.

It is perfectly sensible to ignore an email if you consider that the sender is not right for you. While in real life such situations are more delicate and more often than not require an explanation, in the electronic system, you break no online dating etiquette by just turning your back on someone. Plus it would be more insulting to write back and say that you don't find the person suitable. You can even break up through emails.

Let's say you've met somebody online and then went on a real date, but things didn't happen as anticipated. You can tell that person that you don't want to meet again, or you can write him/her a message. However, after several dates, you should give one an explanation even if you have met online. Do it in elegant and friendly terms. Plus, you can still continue to write to other people even when dating someone. It works just fine.

It is totally against online dating etiquette to keep your profile up when sincerely communicating with someone. Even if the relationship is carried online, there will come a moment when you will meet. You can still remain a member and keep your profile, but make sure the profile is no longer active. Without sticking to this common sense rule, you may spoil your chance of getting a good relationship going.

A great deal of the online dating etiquette refers to common communication rules. Dishonesty, profanity and rudeness are beyond acceptance, yet they cannot be eliminated from dating services for good. Well moderated sites have less distasteful interventions, but usually every online dating web page has some shady characters that will come out eventually.
